Why did I become a CPO? Always
wanted to be a police officer. I grew up in a law enforcement
family. My Uncle was a CPO for 35 years. I enjoy the
outdoors. Being a CPO offers the most variety and activity.
CPO work has changing environments, scenarios and crimes. The
hours are different as the season changes.
Most interesting arrest(s)? The
most complex and interesting is when I was working in Lake Michigan and
I was checking on boat registrations. I found a boat which lead to
a major insurance fraud investigation. The offenders would apply
for homemade titles after reporting them stolen to their insurance
agency. Several tens of thousands of dollars were stolen in this
multi agency investigation. Charges even included mail fraud.
Unsolved cases? I
am currently investigating a case where hundreds of animals were dumped
on the railroad tracks. Wild animals of all types and ages were
found in a remote part of the county. Persons with information can
contact us via our TIPS number at 1-877-2-DNR-LAW.

Pheasants, fishing, woodwork, farming, carpentry, and working around the

Other officer which inspires you? I learn a lot from everyone. Every time I

from everyone of them. We have such a high quality base of
officers.

have good health and possible start another career.

Hunting.
Is it hard to keep professional when
an offender is upset? You treat everybody
with respect. 99% of the time you get along fine. There is
always going to be that 1% that is difficult.
What factors do you consider when
exercising discretion? I look at attitude,
demeanor and prior convictions. Laws are set up for good reasons.
What is the easiest and hardest part
of the job? The easiest is doing a job I
love to do. The hardest is dealing with death and personal
tragedies. Cases with juveniles are tough.
Has the community been supportive? Dekalb county has very good prosecution. I
try to build a good report and maintain credibility in the
court room. They support me. They are eager to learn and
have called on me for educational information.
Ever get your car / truck stuck? Never
How do you want the Conservation
Police to improve in the next 5 years? Maintain
good head count, keep a good budget and provide staff to effectively do
our job.

person who likes to work outdoors and long
hours in inclimate weather.
